World Book Day 2026

World Book Day was an out-of-this-world adventure at our school this year! Our whole-school book was Beegu by Alexis Deacon, the touching story of a small alien who accidentally lands on Earth and struggles to fit in until she meets some kind and curious children.

As the children arrived at school, they were greeted by mysterious alien warning signs on the gates, sparking excitement and curiosity straight away. Throughout the day, classes explored Beegu’s story and thought about themes of kindness, belonging and understanding others.

In Forest School, the children became investigators, searching for clues at a mysterious spaceship crash site hidden among the trees. They carefully examined the area and discussed what might have happened to our unexpected visitor from space.

Back in the classroom, creativity was in full flight. The children designed and described their own aliens, modelling them from plasticine before using AI tools to generate digital pictures of their imaginative creations. We saw aliens of every shape, colour and ability!

The day was packed with even more fun activities including Book Bingo, which encouraged everyone to explore and celebrate different types of books, and space-themed playground games that kept the excitement going outside.

It was a joyful day filled with reading, creativity, curiosity and teamwork. Most importantly, Beegu’s story reminded us all about the importance of kindness and making others feel welcome.

We had a thoroughly wonderful World Book Day and can’t wait for the next adventure in reading!
